Bulgarian journalist Christo Grozev, who is featured in the Oscar and BAFTA-winning documentary “Navalny,” presented the film at the Embassy of Bulgaria for a select audience of EU and NATO Ambassadors, diplomats, US officials and think-tanks.
Grozev is a key figure in the documentary with a crucial role in exposing the operatives behind Alexei Navalny’s poisoning in 2020. The documentary is a survival story that tragically concluded with Navalny’s death in a Russian prison on February 16, 2024.
Among the distinguished guests was Sonata Coulter, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State overseeing policy toward Russia and Central Europe. In his welcoming remarks Ambassador Georgi Panayotov noted the value of living in free societies.
In the post-screening discussion, Christo Grozev said that Alexei Navalny’s story shows how the hopes turned into a tragedy. Navalny and his entire family were prepared for him to be killed and yet they made the choice to return to Russia. Grozev and his team will be investigating the circumstances behind Navalny’s death and are committed to uncover the truth behind it.
After his death, the hope remains that Navalny’s work will be continued by his wife, Yulia Navalnaya.
