Bulgarian representatives participated in the 8th World Congress of Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery 2023, which took place from 27 August to 1 September in Washington, D.C.
The participants were Dr. Dimitar Pechilkov, head of the pediatric cardiology intensive care unit at the National Cardiology Hospital, Dr. Lyudmil Simeonov, pediatric cardiologist, Dr. Ventsislav Boshnakov, pediatric cardiac surgeon, and Tsvetoslav Naydenov, vice-president of the Child’s Heart Association.
The Bulgarian doctors work at the Clinic of Pediatric Cardiology and the Department of Surgery of Congenital Heart Malformations at the National Heart Hospital, which is the only place in Bulgaria for the treatment of children, including newborns, with congenital and acquired heart diseases.
During the Congress, the Bulgarian participants presented 3 specialized reports and 3 posters to over 5700 participants from all over the world. They exchanged valuable experiences on best practices and excellence in pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery.
The National Heart Hospital was honored with a special award from Boston Children’s Hospital for its participation in the International Quality Improvement Collaborative (IQIC), of which it has been a member since 2016. The award ceremony was held at the American College of Cardiology.
Ambassador Panayotov visited the Bulgarian representatives at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and was pleased to invite them to the Embassy of Bulgaria in Washington, D.C. During the meetings they outlined specific areas for cooperation and discussed ways to enhance the relationship between Bulgaria and the USA in the healthcare field.
