Ambassador Tihomir Stoychev was a special guest at the opening ceremony held on May 4th, 2018, on the occasion of the 79th International Flower Mart Exhibition at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. The Mayor of Washington Mrs. Muriel Bowser was a special guest at the event.
This event has a long history, which turned into a beautiful tradition, highlighting each country’s natural and floral heritage as well as its topography, national colors, flags, and symbols. The first flower exhibition was initiated by the First Lady Mrs. Anna Eleanor Roosevelt in 1937.
Flower Mart 2018 is located inside the National Cathedral producing stunning visual effects against the backdrop of the impressive Gothic structure. Over 20 countries took part this year among them Bulgaria, USA, Luxembourg, Australia, Japan, Armenia, South Korea, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Thailand and others.
Our country was presented with a colorful project embodying the Bulgarian Revival architecture made of natural flowers by the Embassy’s staff.
This year’s flower festival will last for three days during which many cultural events will be performed. On Saturday, May 5th, 2018, from 3 through 4 p.m. a Bulgarian folk concert will be held at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC presenting the rich vocal and dance heritage of our country.
