On May 9th, 1950, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman issued a Declaration with a proposal to create a European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). This official statement would fundamentally change the future of Europe and pave the way for the European Union. That was the first step towards the unification, solidarity and prosperity of Europe.
In honor of the 70th anniversary of the signing of the Schuman Declaration, the EU Delegation and the embassies of the EU Member States in Washington, D.C. are going to host the EU Open House online event on May 9th – the Day of Europe.
This year, because of the COVID-19 implications, we are not able to give you the opportunity to visit our embassy and taste Bulgarian wine and traditional food like yogurt, banitsa, lutenitsa and other delicacies, but we are still able to present to you the rich cultural heritage and traditions of #Bulgaria.
